Feast your senses on a spectacle that blends riveting theater with folk music and distinctly Cambodian stories. Gain insight into the charity Phare Ponleu Selpak and discover the work the organization does to help vulnerable children and adults in Cambodian society.

Make your own way to the impressive theatre in the historical heart in Siem Reap and take your seat in the position selected at the time of booking. Hear an expectant hush descend over the audience as the curtains part to reveal a talented troupe of acrobats and dancers of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS); marvel at the sleek agility of the performers, all of who derive from unimaginably difficult situations, and feel the melodic pulsations of the music as the show launches into life. PPS—founded by eight young Cambodians who were once refugees—was created to preserve the culture and art of the Khmer people. The program serves to help reintegrate these children into society through theater and circus arts and provides social and educational programs. Watch a spectacle unravel before your eyes and enjoy a compelling combination of acrobatics, juggling, aerial arts, contortion, and dance.  Watch six different acts—Sokrias (Eclipse), Khmer Metal, Sokha, Preu (Chills), Putho, and Same Same but Different—for a greater understanding of Cambodian culture, history, and beliefs. Opt to sit in standard seats or select an upgrade to enjoy a prime position in the front center rows. You also receive a complimentary beverage and gift if the upgrade is selected. Itinerary Stop At:   Phare, The Cambodian Circus Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS), a non-governmental organization, was established in 1994 by eight young Cambodians who returned to their country after a childhood spent in refugee camps at the Thai border. Recognizing the importance of preserving their culture and Khmer art, the founders developed social and educational programs for vulnerable children living in difficult situations — including street kids, trafficked children and orphans. PPS has used theater and circus arts to help them reintegrate into society, vastly improving the choices available to these young people as they reach adulthood. You'll see PPS's positive impact on the talented performers of Phare, a circus arts troupe that performs different shows throughout the year. The show (see below for the list of performances) elevates Cambodian culture, history and beliefs through music, dance, acrobatics, juggling, aerial arts, contortion and other circus skills. You have the choice of open seating, or select an upgrade to preferred seating in front center rows that includes refillable sports water bottle with cold water.

DAY 04: HALF-DAY KOMPONG PHLUK, TONLE SAP LAKE FROM SIEM REAP

Breakfast at your hotel and after having your breakfast enjoy the Cruise Tonle Sap Lake to Kompong Phluk on a half-day tour from Siem Reap, and explore the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. This half-day Kompong Phluk tour includes all activities, as well as pickup and drop-off at Siem Reap hotels, and both morning and afternoon departures are available.

Stop At:   Kampong Phluk Floating Village Meet the guide at your hotel lobby in Siem Reap for morning or afternoon departure—morning pickups are variety between 7:30am to 8:30am, while afternoon trips depart at 2 pm and  pick up variety between 1pm to 2pm. So guests are advised to wait in the hotel lobby and ready to go as soon as your guide arrives. Tour set out this morning/afternoon on a group tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village. During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up. In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing. Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place. Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers (or wait for the group about 40 mns); will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.  Return to Siem Reap and drop off at your hotel or requested drop off point within Siem Reap city center.
